Oaks Group FAQs:
Are groups similar to classes?
The structure of these groups is peer support and experiential processing rather than informational, knowledge-based learning. While the group will go through resources together, the goal of the group is not to teach and inform, but to develop encouraging and supportive relationships with God and others and equip the group with resources.
Do groups have start and end dates, or are they ongoing?
Although some groups are ongoing, most groups run in sessions with a start and end date for about a 3 month session. This structure builds trust, preserves confidentiality, and creates camaraderie for the process of healing. We encourage supportive relationships between group members to continue naturally beyond the duration of the group session.
Do I have to be a Christian in order to join a group?
We believe that we are whole human beings, and so healing is physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual. As a result, Oaks groups will incorporate healing practices of Christian spirituality, but groups are open to anyone, regardless of your spiritual or religious background.
What if I’m looking for support, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to join a group?
In addition to groups, Oaks also facilitates one-on-one connections with volunteers called advocates. Like group facilitators, they are trained volunteers and are usually a few steps ahead in their own healing process. They offer support as you engage your healing with God and others. Find more information about intake and advocates under our page here.
