Oaks Groups

Healing, Support, and strengthening in a GrouP Setting

Oaks Groups

The goal of each Oaks group is to be a relational environment for people to discover what it looks like to engage in the healing process as part of their faith alongside others with similar experiences. Because Oaks is a Christian ministry, groups also consider what it means to walk with Jesus through specific psychological needs and questions. Groups are overseen by Oaks staff, and are led by trained Oaks volunteers.
Oaks groups are dependent upon a critical mass of interest to begin and operate. Please indicate your interest in specific groups by filling out the brief interest forms below!

Goals of Oaks Groups:

1. Equip you to engage in your own healing process with God and others.
2. Provide an environment for rehabilitative and redemptive relationship through emotional processing.
3. Explore and integrate biblical clarity, spirituality, and the power of the gospel in the context of the healing process and specific psychological topics or questions.

Oaks Group FAQs:

Are groups similar to classes?

The structure of these groups is rooted in relational peer support rather than informational, knowledge-based learning. While the group will go through resources together, the goal of the group is not to teach and inform, but to develop encouraging and supportive relationships with God and between participants for the healing process.

Do groups have start and end dates, or are they ongoing?

Although some groups are ongoing, most groups run in sessions with a start and end date. Sessions are formatted so that each participant within the group starts at the same time, and groups stay together for their duration. Groups typically meet weekly for a 3-month session. This structure builds trust, preserves confidentiality, and creates camaraderie for the process of healing. The goal is to form supportive relationships that encourage perseverance in healing; consequently, we encourage supportive relationships between group members to continue naturally beyond the duration of the group session.

Do I have to be a Christian in order to join a group?

No! We believe that we are whole human beings, and so healing is physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual. As a result, Oaks groups will incorporate healing practices of Christian spirituality, but groups are open to anyone, regardless of your spiritual or religious background. The goal for each participant is engagement with their process of healing.

What if I’m looking for support, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to join a group?

That’s okay! In addition to groups, Oaks also facilitates one-on-one connections with volunteers called advocates. Like group facilitators, they are usually a few steps ahead in their own healing process, and can offer their support and experience as you engage your own healing and discipleship processes. Regardless, we seek to help you discover and be empowered to take your next steps for healing, whether it is through the services we provide, or in connection with other services in the church or community, and so we'd love to meet with you to help you engage your healing process. Find more information about intake and advocates under our page here.
